CAMARGU’Air

CAMARGU’Air is a series of photographs by Magali Chesnel showing natural, elegant, vibrant, and vegetal colors. Aerial photographs of the Camargue and Aigues-Mortes region capture the essence of the mistral wind and salt. The images are taken vertically, with the camera facing the ground. Composed of salt marshes, marshes, and ponds, this humid region has become, in recent decades, a favorite oasis for the greater flamingo. This series is a minimalist immersion into the intimacy of this emblematic bird, which feeds there, flying above this territory and its atypical landscapes of raw and fragile beauty that never fails to impress in both shapes and colors. The photograph-artist is influenced by Rothko’s principles, drawing on emotion to stretch the boundaries of form and color. She likes to create confusion in the eye of the viewer between reality and illusion, photography and painting. Her photos are pure and natural, and she does not alter her images with any tool such as Photoshop, Lightroom, or AI.

Magali Chesnel is a French award-winning artist, painter, and self-taught photographer based in Geneva, Switzerland. Her aerial photographs have been shown across the globe and featured in prominent media. She aims at revealing the world by pushing the boundaries between photography and painting and between form and color to offer a unique perspective while being a witness of her time. More of her work can be found here.
